Materials Science & Engineering Center
The Materials Science and Engineering Center operating as part of the Łukasiewicz – PORT is responsible for the development of research and measurement services related to the production, design, modification, and characteristics of functional materials for applications. Designing and manufacturing materials with well-defined and controlled properties require the work of multidisciplinary research teams whose competencies include chemical, physical, and engineering sciences.
The main directions of the Center’s work include research on composite materials and coatings (including self-cleaning, anti-graffiti, or potentially anti-icing), synthesis of luminescent, thermochromic, thermal, mechanical, antibacterial, electrical, or sensor systems. It searches for new deep UV emitters based on group-III nitrides (AlGaInN) and designing new functions and applications of macromolecules with a specific sequence that go beyond the classic applications of polymers.
In the Center operate service laboratories (Core Facility Laboratories) as well. They fulfill the internal and external needs for measurements and scientific expertise in standard and universal techniques of instrumental analysis or other methods supporting research processes. The laboratories also provide expert opinions on requests, following the requirements of the research processes carried out for clients.
The Material Engineering Center carries out implementation projects without neglecting basic research. Teams and Laboratories form a multidisciplinary and synergistic group of scientists. Their goal is to work for the development of modern technologies.
Composite Materials &Coatings Group: The activity of the Composite Materials & Coatings Group is focused on the development of new polymer composite materials and coatings with desired properties. Read more
Advanced Materials Synthesis Group: Research topics conducted in the Advanced Materials Synthesis Group are related to the design and synthesis of inorganic (phosphors, metallic or oxide nanoparticles) and organic compounds with designed physicochemical characteristic, including luminescent, thermochromic, thermal, mechanical as well as antibacterial, electrical or sensing properties. Advanced Semiconductor Epitaxy Research Group: Epitaxy of group-III nitrides and their alloys. Focused on deep UV-emitter based on AlGaN and AlGaN/GaN electronic devices (HEMT). Read more
The ambition of the Functional Macromolecules Group is to develop life-like functions in synthetic polymers through regulation of monomer sequence for development of complex materials. Read more
